Measurement & Quality

CMM Inspection & Traceable Quality Control

United Machinists operates a fully equipped, climate-controlled metrology laboratory. Every component is verified against specification before it leaves the floor, as part of a defined process that runs from material intake through to final inspection.

Inspection is digital at every stage, in-process and final, which means we can run full statistical process capability (Cpk) analysis by feature. Rather than only confirming an individual part is within tolerance, we can see how a process is performing over time, and catch a feature drifting toward the edge of tolerance before it becomes a nonconformance.

We work to GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards to interpret and verify toleranced features against the engineering drawing, alongside surface finish, material certification and dimensional inspection. Together, that gives clients confidence that parts meet the exact standards required in mission-critical industries, with no margin for error.

We programme using TopSolid CAD/CAM software, which gives us greater efficiency and precision in toolpath programming across our fleet. Getting the programme right reduces the margin for error during machining.

The verification process then confirms each component is correct, covering both the digital programme prior to cutting and the physical part after manufacturing. Dimensions, geometry and surface finish are all checked against the original engineering specification.

The result is start-to-finish quality control that provides traceable evidence at every stage.

Precision and Traceability are the Bedrock of What We Do

ISO 9001 Certified Quality Control

Because we machine parts for high-value, mission-critical industries including aerospace, medical and defence, we hold the quality credentials required to deliver consistent performance within extremely tight tolerances.

Quality Equipment

The Hexagon Global S Scan+ is a coordinate measuring machine capable of high-speed tactile scanning, operating within our climate-controlled metrology lab. It captures a large number of surface points quickly, delivering accurate form and profile measurements across even the most complex geometries.

Paired with the Micro-Vu Vertex 312 HC for vision and touch probe measurement, we can verify components across a full range of geometries and tolerances. Results are captured and documented, with custom reports available on request.

  • High-speed scanning for accurate, repeatable measurement
  • Multi-angle probe positioning for complex geometries
  • Fast setup between different part configurations
  • Real-time comparison against CAD models
  • Full geometric and dimensional analysis (GD&T)
  • Suited to both small-batch and production volume inspection

Supporting the CMMs we have a suite of over 400 calibrated and controlled instrumentation spanning thread and ring gauges, digital height, surface roughness and thickness gauges and callipers.
